【André Brasilier Exhibition in Châeau-Thierry】
Tardenois, which lies about 100km north of Paris, has produced two great artists: Paul Claudel, a poet (1868-1995; his sister is the sculptor, Camille Claudel), and the painter André Brasilier. Both had and have a deep love for the region, acknowledging it as a source of their creativity. The exhibition (November 24, 2006-January 24, 2007) presented 30 paintings by André Brasilier created between 1965 and 2006 and which took Tardenois as their motif. They were also a homage to a stanza of a Claudel poem. While spending several years in Japan as ambassador, 1921 to 1927, Claudel frequently visited historical sites such as Nikko to gain further understanding of Japanese culture. He is also known as a founder of the Maison France-Japonaise together with the industrialist Eiichi Shibusawa.
